Our dunes adventure!

This last weekend we traveled to the Namib desert to see the dunes. We drove across many kilometers of dirt and gravel roads and arrived at the desert camp on Friday night. We went over to the lodge for dinner that night and had ostrich and gemsbok for dinner. They had zebra too but Abigael and I can't bring ourselves to eat zebra. The next morning we got up early to head to the dunes and found a scorpion on our front porch! Apparently there are many scorpions out now and we were to watch for them and we did! The scorpion ran into our tent cabin and Mr. Wrye chased it out with a broom. It was very mad at us and its tail was sticking straight up. We then got it off the porch and on to the sand. Then it tried to crawl back up onto the porch and Mr. Wrye killed it and then buried it in the sand. We kept an eye out for his family and always looked on the ground for scorpions from then on. We got to go swimming in a small pool which looked out onto the desert. We had several huge storms so we had to get out when the lightening came. On Saturday we went to Sossusvlei. There is Deadvlei there as well but we didn't make it there this time. Abigael climbed the Sossusvlei dune all by herself holding Mr. Wrye's hand! Lillian was easier to go up because I carried her. :)We sat on the top once we made it and looked out on the beautiful view. Abigael was easy to go down because she liked to run. Lillian was harder to go down because she wanted to slide in the sand and it took a loooong time. :) While we were traveling this weekend we saw ostrich, springbok, horses, cows, jackals, zebras, oryx, goats, beetles, geckos, flies and of course the scorpion!
