Home

We left Cape Town on Monday evening. We left several hours later than planned, because the ground crew was unable to empty the plane's waste tanks. (Ick.) Something about not having the right wrench. But after several hours on the tarmac, they finally figured something out, and we were off to Dakar.

In Dakar, after switching crews and having the security and cleaning crews come through and additional passengers loaded, they told us that we had an oil leak in one of the engines. So, we got a couple of extra hours on the ground in Dakar while they figured out and fixed that problem.

All in all, we were on that plane for 23 hours. That's a long time to be confined to one plane.

Even with the delays, we had a superlong layover in New York, so we took the bus in to Manhattan and hung around Times Square for a little culture shock before getting on the last plane home. When we got home, we'd been up (with some napping on planes) for 48 hours. Lillian and Barney illustrate how we all felt:

We still have some things to share about our week in Cape Town, and will also post a few more pictures before we close this down. Thanks to everyone for following along with our adventures!
